Directional road islands

Scale 1:100

Directional islands
It is appropriate to physically separate the currents entering and leaving the roundabout by means of triangular directional islands. The directional islands must always be present and insurmountable in order to:

– ensure greater perception of the roundabout;
– allow pedestrians to cross safely.

However, for the minirotatory only, a directional island that can be surmounted is also admissible as long as it is clearly visible and with differentiated flooring from the rest.
The width of the island at the edge of the roundabout should not be less than 3 m; its length, in the case of pedestrian crossings, must be such as to also allow physical protection of pedestrians.
The pedestrian crossings should be positioned at a distance of 4 ÷ 5 m from the edge of the turning crown. 4 ÷ 5 m≥ 3.00 m
