Villa Publius Fannius Synistor

One of the most important and well-preserved Roman residences discovered in the Pompeii area

Villa Publius Fannius Synistor (Boscoreale)

The Villa of Publius Fannio Sinistore is one of the most important and well-preserved Roman residences discovered in the area of Pompeii, the ancient Roman city buried by the eruption of Vesuvius in AD 79. The villa is named after its alleged owner, Publius Fannio Sinistore, a member of the Roman aristocracy of the time. It is located in Regio IX (Region 9) of Pompeii.

The villa is known for its complex layout and numerous rooms decorated with high-quality frescoes depicting mythological scenes, landscapes, human figures and animals. The structure includes an atrium, a peristyle (a colonnaded courtyard), residential rooms, private baths and gardens. The presence of these private baths within the villa suggests the high status of the owner, as only the wealthiest families could afford the luxury of such facilities.
The Villa of Publius Fannio Sinistore offers important insights into the daily life, art and architecture of ancient Pompeii and Roman society in the imperial era. Its discovery and study continue to contribute to our knowledge of ancient Roman civilisation.
