Naturalistic engineering: bank defense interventions

The classic intervention is one that uses boulders of considerable size and weight and the greening of the bank by inserting willow cuttings between one boulder and another.

Another type of intervention uses simple or double live pilings or even cladding with willow sticks, alder cuttings, tamarisk or other species.

Bank vegetation plays an important role as it reduces the speed of the current, favors the capture of sediments and consolidates the banks.
